- Pair your fish carefully. Not all fish mix well. To avoid this issue, search on line for important habitat information regarding your specific variety of goldfish, or ask your pet store expert for assistance in pairing together ones that will play nicely together.
- Get a tank that is large enough for your fish to grow. Goldfish generally do well in tanks that holds 2 gallons of water per inch of fish.
- Keep your goldfish tank clean at all times. About 10% of the water needs to be changed each week for the first few months, then about 25% of the water each month after that. And install a filtration system and be sure to test the water regularly with home test strips.
- Provide a variety of food for your pet. Fish can lose interest after some time goes by. Offer pellet, flake, freeze-dried, and frozen varieties. If your fish isn’t eating, check the water quality and look for signs of disease such as redness or discolored fins.
